Overview:
Magic Links are temporary sign-in links that let patients access the Patient App without needing a username and password. Clinics can work with their EngagedMD Representative to enable Magic Links so patients can quickly open assignments from email or text (SMS) notifications and be automatically logged into the Patient App.By the end of this article, you’ll know how to request and use a Magic Link, what to expect when logging in, and what to do if a link expires.
Steps
1. Understand what Magic Links do
When Magic Links are enabled, patients can log in to the Patient App using a temporary link sent by email or SMS. This method does not require a username and password.
✅ Magic Links can be used when:
A patient receives an email or SMS notification that directs them to the Patient App
A patient requests a sign-in link directly from the Patient App login screen
2. Request a Magic Link from the Patient App login screen
- Open the Patient App login screen.
- Select Log in with Link.
- Choose how you want the link delivered:
- Text message (SMS) (if enabled for your clinic)
➡️ Tip: If SMS login is not enabled for your clinic, you will only see the option to send a link by email.
3. Log in using a Magic Link from an email
- Enter the email address your clinic has on file for you.
- Select Send.
- Open the email and select the Log in button.
- You will be redirected into the Patient App and signed in automatically.
✅ The email may show that the link will expire in a certain number of hours, based on clinic settings.
4. Log in using a Magic Link from a text message (SMS)
Note: SMS is not available for international use.
- Enter the phone number your clinic has on file for you.
- Select Send.
- Open the text message and tap the link.
- You will be redirected into the Patient App and signed in automatically.
5. What to do if your Magic Link expires
Magic Links are temporary and may expire after a set amount of time or uses. If your link expires, EngagedMD will automatically send you a new one when needed.
✅ If you see an expired link message, return to the Patient App login screen and request a new Magic Link.
6. Common tips and best practices
- Use the most recent Magic Link you receive.
- If you don’t see the email, check your spam/junk folder.
- If your clinic has Magic Links enabled, any Patient App email/SMS notification link may automatically sign you in (as long as the Magic Link token hasn’t expired).
For security reasons, Magic Links are designed to expire after a short time.
